Employee Benefits Law Definition

Pension and employee benefits law is a practice area for lawyers who counsel employers, boards of trustees, unions, and others on legal questions related to several different types of retirement and employee group benefit plans. The largest area of emphasis is on registered pension plans.

This area of law encompasses a wide spectrum of matters, including planning, drafting, and interpreting retirement plan documents, and assisting clients with ongoing administrative and compliance matters as well as litigation and dispute management. Lawyers also work closely with plan sponsors and administrators on fiduciary duties, tax compliance issues, and various issues related to plan investments. All of this requires working in the human resources area, but also dealing regularly with corporate finance and investment professionals and with government agencies, including the Canada Revenue Agency and various federal and provincial pension regulators.

The Presidents Award for Excellence in Quality recognizes and honors a New England Baptist Hospital employee or physician who has demonstrated a true passion and dedication for improving clinical quality and promoting patient safety. This individual has made a lasting impact on the care delivered to our patients by meaningful contributions and distinguished achievements in patient safety and quality improvement that ultimately result in the improvement of patient care and outcomes. This person has had an extraordinary and positive impact on the Hospital community and has made distinguished achievements due to their desire to enhance the clinical experience of our patients through innovative ideas and safe practices. The recipient will be selected by the Presidents Council.

Shelby Baptist Holds Employee Giving Campaign To Benefit Baptist Health Foundation

SHELBY COUNTY, Ala. – As you know, medical costs can be some of your biggest personal expenses. Thats why Shelby Baptist Medical Center celebrated one of the funds they set up to help patients meet some of those medical cost gaps.

The employee giving campaign was held Wednesday, October 26, with a chili cookoff and pumpkin carving event.

The 3-month campaign encourages employees to make a donation in support of the Baptist Health Foundation, but anyone can donate in support.

Every dollar donated will go towards two funds.

The Patient Assistance Fund provides financial support to qualified patients to help with medications, nursing visits, and transportation from the hospital after theyre discharged.

The Employee Benevolence Fund provides financial support for Baptist Health employees who experience unexpected hardships.

Alison Scott, the Executive Director of the Baptist Health Foundation, said for both the Patient Assistance Fund and the Employee Benevolence Fund, there are committees.

That are local here at Shelby Baptist with case managers who handle all of the patient requests and then the committee chairman handle all the employee requests, Scott said.

Those interested can apply through the pastoral care department at Shelby Baptist Medical Center to access the funds.

Shelby Baptist prides themselves on being there for one another and this campaign enables them to play a part in making the community better and healthier.
