Health Care Coverage And Part
HARTFORD, Conn. Aetna announced today the release of a white paper which discusses the health care challenges facing employers and their part-time and variable-hour employees. The number of Americans working part-time has grown to about 28 million according to employment data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. U.S. Department of Labor. Bureau of Labor Statistics. www.bls.gov/web/empsit/cpseea06.htm. Accessed March 2014. Aetna’s paper explores how emerging health benefits solutions, such as voluntary plans like hospital indemnity and broader coverage fixed indemnity, can provide employers with benefit options that can assist in retaining valuable part-time employees. The paper also looks at how these offerings can expand the range of coverage workers have access to at a more affordable cost.
The paper, Benefit Solutions for a Growing Part-Time and Variable Hour Workforce, cites a number of key statistics, which demonstratethe rapid growth of the part-time workforce. The number of individuals working part-time rose from about 17 percent in 2007 to nearly 20 percent in 2009. Part-time numbers have remained at the 20 percent level through mid-2013.1
Several factors such as struggling economy and the implementation of the Affordable Care Act which requires businesses to offer health care coverage to full-time employees or face tax penalties have led many businesses to hire part-time instead of full-time workers.
Employers Recognizing The Need
Part-time workers must comply with the ACA’s rule to have health care coverage. But many times these employees are not eligible to enroll in their company’s full-time benefits program. While these workers may qualify for significant premium subsidies through the public Exchanges, they may not be able to afford the high out-of-pocket costs. As a result, more employers are looking to add voluntary benefit plans to help meet their employees’ coverage needs.

Understanding Pto Policies At Cvs Pharmacy
If youre accepted for a full-time job with CVS Pharmacy, you will typically be eligible to use your paid time off approximately six months after your start date. In addition, CVS offers employees a variety of PTO days, including paid holidays and sick, vacation, and personal days.
Like most other corporations in the United States, CVS grants paid time off on an accrual schedule, so the amount of sick, vacation and personal days you have will directly depend on your position, how many hours you work, and how long youve been at the company for.
Generally, CVS Pharmacy employees start with a standard two weeks of paid time off and have the ability to accrue up to 30 days of a year based on their performance on the job.
In addition to standard PTO policies, CVS also offers employees paid parental leave and other long-term absences for extenuating circumstances.

What Is The Outsourcing Of Employees
You might wonder how you can outsource employees. After all, by strict definition, employees are hired by you and on your payroll. If you dont hire them, theyre not your employees. They might be contractors or the employees of another company.
The outsourcing of employees is a little bit different. In this case, youll team up with a professional employer organization, or PEO. This provider works with you to jointly employ workers for your business.
As co-employers, you and the PEO have joint responsibility for employees. While you maintain control over who is hired and let go from the company, the PEO will take over many of the other tasks associated with employing people.

Efforts To Support Current Employees
CVS Healths Employee Assistance Program stood at the ready to help employees adjust to changes in their personal and professional lives resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. Mental health counselors are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to support employees and their family members experiencing feelings such as stress, anxiety or depression. Employees can access contact information and program details on the companys intranet. CVS Health found that offering a safe place for employees to discuss their experiences and feelings, and receive assistance from mental health professionals, not only benefited individual employees, but also positively impacted its corporate culture.
In addition, CVS Healths Human Resources Hotline can address any HR-related questions employees have related to COVID-19, including leaves of absence, work from home and other policies. The company also established a COVID-19 Command Center for reporting of potential or confirmed exposures in any CVS Health facility in order to quickly send notifications to staff and implement cleaning protocols. The safety of every employee and customer has been a top priority for CVS Health from the beginning. They have been working to secure personal protective gear and prioritized distribution to the hardest-hit areas.
Break Policy For Employees
CVS offers employees two 15-minute breaks and one 30-minute lunch break per shift. Breaks can be taken at any time during the shift but must be approved by a supervisor. Is Outsourcing Employees Right For You
Its easy to see why the outsourcing of employees could be a good idea for some businesses. Many international employers already outsource some or all of the tasks a PEO can handle for them. Instead of sending payroll to this firm and assigning hiring responsibilities to another, you can consolidate your HR functions with one company.
If you have several firms providing different, yet related, services, youre likely going to run into issues. Perhaps the payroll company keeps records differently than the recruitment firm youre working with, leading to trouble reconciling the books about compensation.
The outsourcing of employees helps you streamline your operations, reducing time and saving money. Its just good business sense!

Lifting The Administrative Burden
So, the PEO takes over many of the day-to-day tasks associated with employing people. This means that the paperwork is shuffled from your desk onto theirs.
This can save you time and effort, especially if youre employing people in an international market, such as Canada. Your team may not be familiar with the laws, or they may not have time to conduct payroll for additional employees.
The PEO could help you save both time and money for this reason.
You might wonder, though, if the PEO isnt just a staffing agency. Some staffing agencies hire employees, then lease them to other businesses. The agency is responsible for all HR tasks related to these workers.
The PEO is very similar, but not quite the same. When you work with a staffing agency, you have less say over the agencys employee policies and protocols. You also have less involvement in hiring decisions. With the PEO, you maintain more control over these aspects of your workforce. In short, the PEO works with you to find and retain the absolute best people for your team.
Essentially, a PEO is an employee management system for your business. The organization can work with your internal HR department or its team can become your HR experts.
