Grocery stores can be great first part-time jobs. They can also be an excellent stepping stone to a permanent career.

Trader Joes has been listed in Forbes as being the best place to work. Costco and Wegmans have both made the list, too.

Not only does Trader Joes pay above minimum wage, but they also provide benefits like health insurance, paid time off, and a company-funded retirement plan to part-time and full-time employees alike.

Employees love working at Trader Joes, too. They encourage a culture of camaraderie and sharing responsibilities throughout the store. They even encourage employees to sample the food they sell!

But, of course, Whole Foods Market has also made the Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For, for almost all of the past 25 years.

Costco made the list of top employers, too.

Working as a 16 year old is a constant battle between the benefits and detractors. At that age, there is much to consider and not a lot of time to consider it. But there are huge advantages to those who choose to join the workforce as a teenager, even if you are still completing your schooling.

Costco raised its minimum wage to $15.00 per hour in 2019, less than a year after they raised it to $14.50.

Target has announced that it will be raising its minimum wage to $15.00 per hour by the end of 2020.

Trader Joes doesnt have a specific minimum wage they pay across the entire country. Instead, they pay a wage that is competitive with the surrounding area. Each starting pay is based on what it will take to attract the best talent.

Final Thoughts Should I Apply At Winn

Food Stamps EBT Winn Dixie Walmart Food Box Food Riots

Working at Winn Dixie is not my first choice to jump into the marketplace in the supermarket retail business. There are several reasons.

The first is that the pay is very low and there is no way to be able to support yourself if you live independently and pay a mortgage or rent. Now, if you are a college student still living at home or if you live in a place where you are you are just paying a fraction of what other people pay for rent and mortgage, such as a studio or efficiency, then its doable.

On the other hand, if you are someone who wants to jump into retail management, Winn-Dixie offers a very good opportunity to advance within its system.

College students may want to take a look at the internship program described above. Retirees may want to look at a part-time job with this retail chain as it will provide a pleasant working atmosphere and a steady paycheck.

If you are someone who is very motivated and wants to start out at higher pay, you can check out a Trader Joes or Whole Foods Market application. Keep in mind getting hired by these companies is much harder than getting hired at Winn-Dixie.

What Is The Highest Paying Grocery Store

One of the best things about job hunting for work at a grocery store is that stores are always hiring. Literally every store. From the small grocery store in rural America to the big chain in the city, you wont have a problem finding work.

High pay, on the other hand, can be hard to come by.

So, which grocery stores pay the most?

The federal minimum wage is currently $7.25 per hour.

Fortunately, many stores are going well above and beyond as it relates to minimum wage. In fact, when I was running the original Whole Foods store in San Francisco 18 years ago, our starting wage was $10.00 and many cashiers who had been there a little while were closer to $20/hr.

Stores like Target, Costco, and Walmart all pay well over the federal minimum wage.

Here are the best-known stores from highest to lowest paying:

    • Costco & Whole Foods Market comes in at the highest at $15.00.
    • Target starts off at $13.00 per hour and will increase its wages to $15.00 per hour by the end of 2020.
    • Trader Joes starts off at $12.03 per hour
    • Walmarts minimum is $11.00 per hour.
    • Safeway starts at a disappointing $9.76 per hour
    • Kroger starts at a disappointing $8.15 per hour

But different positions may have a different starting pay rate. You may be surprised to see how many people it takes to keep a grocery store up and running!

Thats when they stock shelves overnight, often arriving for work at 10 pm.

Not sure what all the different positions are in a grocery store?

As HCA Healthcare employees, it is our top priority to take excellent care of our patients. But we also take care of each other. In 2004 this was more evident than ever as hundreds of our colleagues were affected by the Florida hurricanes. Immediately following the storms, HCA Healthcare employees throughout the United States wanted to know how they could help. Contributions came in and were disbursed out to HCA Healthcare families that had been impacted. To these families, the contributions from their fellow employees represented much more than financial relief. They represented hope that life might soon return to normal. What started as an informal way to help one another soon evolved into a nonprofit organization, the HCA Healthcare Hope Fund, was officially formalized in July 2005.
